Recently, I have been working on the Shoulder Stand pose and trying to hold this pose for 9 minutes. That was my goal to build stamina.
While I was in the pose, eagerly waiting for the phone ringer to go 'off' after 9 minutes, it was also getting harder to hold the pose.
That's when I remembered that my teacher Aadil had mentioned how B.K.S. Iyengar (Yoga Guru) asked his advanced students to hold this pose for 1 hour.
Yes, ONE HOUR.
So I thought, what if I had to hold this pose RIGHT NOW for one hour.
Immediately, I released the grip in my jaw.
I softened my eyes.
I released the tight grip of my hands on my back.
I released the tight grip and fast breathing to make it smooth.
I released mentally and physically at a deeper level.
That's when, I was present.
Because, there was no point in holding tight when I had to be in the pose for an hour.
I then realized about the situations in my life that I'm mentally holding tight that I cannot change. Perhaps I have been holding it for years. It has been draining me mentally and physically.
I learned to let it go.
This one pose 'on' the mat taught me about deeper actions that I can take 'off' the mat.
Namaste!
